It is understandable to feel as though we are being judged when we wear hijab. It's true. People are undeniably judged by what they choose to wear. Whether at work, the market, an interview, on a walk, out with friends. It is important to have a positive perception of yourself and your hijab, one that outshines negativity. Having a positive perception will help when confronted with scorn, comments, passive aggression; all the things that cause insecurity and self doubt. Recognizing the moments as they are felt is also important, because it is in the moment where we may unknowingly absorb or adopt judgement upon ourselves. I will share with you my positive perception, which is quite possibly felt by the very ones who throw shade. It is that the hijab is admirable, deep down admirable. To have and hold fast to deep rooted faith is a show of conviction and devotion. A sign of strength and substance. Hijabi women are like firmly rooted trees in an ever changing society. They have a dress code that withstands and empowers, quite enviable at times. There is a classiness to the headscarf. It is dignified and beautiful. A beautiful embrace of faith while still allowing for personality and her own sense of style, while also allowing for obscurity or a even a complete escape from the fashion world! It is often difficult but at the same time fulfilling. Following a dress code given by the one who created you is pure trust and love. It is a declaration and show of pride in your faith. It is also a daily reminder and affirmation of your worth, your honour, and your path. Hijab is a very powerful piece of clothing. Hijab, headscarf, veil, head covering, what it is is a guidance from the One who created you :) So try to carry a positive perception of this special garment you wear, one that outshines, one that uplifts, one that will bring out the confidence and self love you very much deserve:)
